최근 들어 정치영역에서는 과거 남성의 영역으로 알려졌던 최고 정치지도자 의 지위에 여성들이 도전장을 내면서 지구적인 차원에서 여성대통령이나 여성 총리가 국정을 이끌고 있는 모습을 볼 수 있다. 이처럼 여성들이 정치지도자의 반열에 오르게 된 이유는 지구화 과정에서 나타나는 사회변화 때문이다. 지구화과정은 교통과 통신의 발달로 국가 및 지역사회의 경계를 넘어 정보를 교류하면서 개인의 내면세계뿐 아니라 사회구조에도 많은 변화를 가져오고 있다. 특히 정치지도자에 있어서는 과거의 남성 중심적인 강력한 파워를 자랑하는 지도자가 아니라 이전과는 다른 새로운 지도자, 즉 전통적인 남성 중심적 정치지도자를 대신할 새로운 지도자를 요구하게 되었다. 이러한 의미에서 여성정치지도자의 등장은 여성들에게 역할모델이 되어줄 뿐만 아니라 기존 정치의 틀을 바꿀 수 있는 계기를 제공한다는 차원에서 의미가 있다. 특히 성(性) 인지적이며 수평적이고 민주적인 여성주의 정치리더십을 지향한다면 전통적인 정치리더십의 패러다임이 바뀌어 지구화시대에 부응하는 대안적 정치리더십의 역할을 다할 것이라 본다.
Abstract
Recently, in political area, women are challenging the position of top political leader which was known as the area of men in the past. So we can see women presidents or women prime ministers leading the national politics in the global dimension. The reason of women's positions as political leaders is the social change resulting from globalization. Globalization is making people to exchange information beyond the boundary of local society and nation by the development of transportation and communication. Also it is bringing many changes in the social structure as well as the inside world of the individual. With globalization, as for the political leaders, a different leader is demanded that will substitute the traditional masculine political leader. In this sense, the upcoming of female gender-perceptive democratic political leader not only becomes a role model to the women, but also has its potential to change the frame of the existing politics.
