베르그송은 당대의 과학적 결과를 끊임없이 참조했으며, 뛰어난 분석력을 바탕으로 이를 자신의 사유 속에서 오랜 시간 응축시켜낸 놀라운 통찰력을 우리에게 제시했다. 물론 이것은 베르그송에게만 해당되는 사실은 아니다. 칸트의 비판철학은 뉴턴의 고전역학을 경이롭게바라본 철학자가 제시하는 놀라운 사색의 결과물로서, 그의 철학은 과학적 결과를 어떻게 성공적으로 수용할 것인가를 보여준 좋은 선례이기도 하다. 그렇다면 우리는 그 반대 방향에 대해서도 물을 수 있을것이다. 즉, 과학이 철학적 결과를 수용한다면 어떤 모습일까? 본 논의는 이러한 질문을 베르그송의 사유에 대해 제기하고, 양자역학의 개념을 베르그송의 사유 속에서 이해하려는 시도를 담고 있다. 본 논의는 제기된 질문을 두 가지 방향에서 살펴보고자 한다. 첫째,베르그송이 자신의 사유를 전개했을 당시의 시대상과 새로운 과학이 태동하여 전개되는 시기의 시대상을 역사적으로 조망하고자 한다. 이를 통해 우리는 베르그송은 자신이 직면한 시대적 한계와의 대결을통해 새로운 형이상학을 전개하였을 뿐만 아니라, 그의 사유는 새로운과학이 출현하는 시기와 맞물려 있음을 확인할 수 있을 것이다. 둘째,과학적 시도의 한계를 단적으로 보여주는 예로서, 양자역학에 등장한이원론 문제를 살펴보려고 한다. 이원론은 양자역학의 형성과정에서주조된 개념인 ‘입자－파동 이중성’ 문제 그리고 ‘불확정성의 원리’에서 정형화되었는데, 우리는 이러한 개념이 베르그송의 사유와 매우 유사하다는 것을 드러내고자 한다.
Abstract
Bergson had presented us the outstanding insights through the condensed thinking which is based on the remarkable analysis of the contemporary science. Definitely, this is not suitable only for Bergson’ philosophy. Kant’s Critique Philosophy is good example for how philosophy which has received the result of science could give new perspective to our thoughts. Then we could ask on the contrary to this: when the science could absorb certain philosophical thoughts, what does it look like? In this paper, we would apply this question to Bergson’s philosophy, and then we would try to understand the concepts of quantum mechanics within Bergson’s thoughts. We have two directions to look into for above question. First, we would take historically a view of the circumstances in which both Bergson had lived and the new science, quantum mechanics, had evolved. Through this, we would identify that Bergson who had confronted the contemporary science has brought out novel metaphysics as well, and that the period of his thoughts progress coincided with that during the advent of quantum mechanics. Second, as a critical example of the limit of the scientific investigation, we would examine the dualism which is observed and formulated at quantum mechanics. We would reveal the resemblance between Bergson’s philosophy and the concepts of quantum mechanics which are known as ‘wave-particle duality’ and ‘uncertainty principle’.
