Abstract
This study aimed to compare and analyze the muscle activity and kinematic variables of the lower limbs during running with and without a rifle and load carriage on uphill slopes. Ten subjects participated in this study. Their lower limb muscle activity and motion were measured and analyzed using EMG and a motion analysis system while running on a treadmill with slope inclinations of 0%, 10%, and 20% at 7 km/h, under the condition of wearing a load carriage and holding a model rifle weighing approximately 10kg. Two-way repeated measures ANOVA was performed to compare each condition(p<.05). The range of motion of the ankle joint decreased uniformly by about 6° and the hip joint increased by about 8∼9° as the inclination increased from 0% to 10%, 20% each, regardless of armed condition. However, knee joint flexion showed different patterns at 10% and 20% slopes depending on armed conditions. Muscle activity in the lower extremity increased up to 1.5 times as the slope became steeper, regardless of whether subjects were armed. Increased muscle activity was observed in the armed condition and steeper slopes, indicating the necessity of muscle training for the lower extremities during armed slope running. Strengthening the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles is particularly important. As the slope becomes steeper, the range of motion of the hip joint increases, suggesting the need to strengthen the gluteus maximus, biceps femoris, and core muscles to overcome the load.
