초록

The Existing studies related to the ethnic origin of Koguryo are concerned with the problem of the origin of Korean. Among others it has been laid emphasis on a matter of names, Ye·Maek·YeMaek, etc. Concerning about the ethnic origin of Koguryo, korean scholars have established recently that Maek as the name of Koguryo tribe has nothing to do with the Maek mentioned in the literatures of Pre Qin period. Ye and Maek are shown in the literatures of Pre Qin period respectively, Maek in the period of the Xizhou was named a tribe in the outskirts of Zhou. It however became a general title of a unspecified different 'ethnic group' since Chunqiu period and gradually became a general title which designated the nothern tribes since the latter Zhanguo period. Ye had been referred to as the tribes of the northeastern china, but when Maek became a general title of the northen tribes, it was changed Yemaek. The Kory land and Namyo, a chief of Ye had an effect on the founding of Koguryo and the formation of the ethnic group. The culture of the Kory has a right to be named the culture of the Proto Puyo along with the Xituanshan culture. This type of culture is distributed widely northern Manchuria to northern Liaoning Province, and affects the founding of Puyo and Koguryo. When Namyo, a chief of Ye surrendered to the Han dynasty under the pressure of Kojoseon, Han dynasty tried to establish County Canghai in the sphere of her influence. It is assumed that the geographical location was Southern Liaoning Peninsula where is one of the main habitation of Yemaek tribes, Eastern Qianshan Mts and Hun River Valley. The establishing of Chinese counties was the beginning of several tribes's awakening and unite for resistance, these tribes were making the stone mounds in the Proto Koguryo. Puyo People who had moved Puyo territory to the Proto Koguryo merged with indigenous peoples and established Koguryo, and then confronted with Chinese counties earnestly in the same period. I think why the name Maek was referred to as Koguryo in the historical records of china arises from it.
