Abstract

In the northwestern part of the Kraskino fortress, which is considered the center of the Yanzhou district of the Longyuanfu region of the Eastern capital of Balhae, there is a temple complex. In this complex from 1980 to 2006 were excavated such temple structures as the — main hall, pavilion etc., and other objects: tiled stoves, a well, etc. E.V. Astashenkova and V.I. Boldin divided the disc-shaped roof-end tiles from the temple complex into 8 types and believed that they alternate as follows: types 2, 4, 7 → types 5, 8 → types 1, 3, 6. However, disc-shaped roof-end tiles found in the western part of the road (excavation 51) in the northwestern part of the Kraskino fortress, where excavations were completed in 2018, show that the previous relative chronology of the roof-end tiles from the Kraskino fortress needs a correction. Here, the remains of the road with a total thickness of about 1 m are divided into 5 building horizons. As a result of the analysis of the disc-shaped roof-end tiles from the road part, where the sequence of their dumping is recognized, and the discshaped roof-end tiles from the temple complex, where the simultaneity of their dumping is recognized, it turned out that the roof-end tiles in the Kraskino fortress appeared in turn: type 2 → type 6 → types 4, 5, 7, 8 → types 3 and 1. Moreover, roof-end tiles of type 6 and types 4, 5, 7, 8 do not have much difference in the time of their appearance. Type 1 front tiles were used until very late. In general, the Balhae roof-end tiles from the Kraskino fortress are divided by their time of appearance into 1 stage (type 2), 2 stage (types 4, 5, 6, 7, 8), and 3 stage (types 1 and 3). We think that in the future the relative chronology of the Balhae roof-end tiles from the Kraskino fortress will be very useful for the relative chronology of the Balhae roof-end tiles in generally
