청대 『만주원류고』에 보이는 발해의 계통과 강역 인식

『만주원류고』는 건륭제가 청을 건국한 선조들의 역사를 정리하여 체계화함으로써 만주의 정체성을 확립하고, 천하를 다스리는 청조의 통치권에 정통성과 합법성의 근거를 부여하기 위해 편찬되었다. 『만주원류고』는 동토인 백산, 흑수의 공간이 숙신 이후 끊임없이 자신의 선조인 만주의 원류들에 의해 점유되고발전되어온 과정을 설명하기 위해 노력하였다. 만주와 만주 원류들 사이의 연결고리로서 금과 발해를 주목하였다. 특히 발해는 청의 문자 창제, 즉 문명의 시원이 오래된 근거로 주목하고있다. 또한 발해 전후 불분명한 동토의 강역 관계를 설명하기 위해 꼭 필요하였다. 이러한 발해-금-청으로의 계통 설계는 청이 단순히 힘으로 중국을 지배한 것이 아니라 발해 때부터 일찍이 문자를 가진 문명화된 존재이자, 금대에 이미 천하의 지존이 되었고 두 시기에 체계적으로 강역을 편제하여 지배했으며, 다시 청 만주로 이어졌음을 강조하기 위한 것이다. 그런데 발해를 만주 원류의 일원적 계통에 끌어들이기 위해서는 의도적으로조선과 계승 관계가 인정되고 있는 고구려의 존재를 지워야 하였다. 이렇게 인위적으로 고구려가 빠지며 생긴 역사의 빈공간을 채우기 위해, 그리고 동방의‘군자국’이 자신에게 있음을 주장하기 위해 삼한, 신라, 백제 등을 만주 원류로부회하게 된 것이다. 그러나 『만주원류고』의 숙신-말갈(발해) -여진(금) -만주(청)으로 이어지는계통의 설계 기획은 철저하지 못하였다. 하지만 청말과 근대 민국시기 대외 위기의 고조 속에서 『만주원류고』의 중국 동북 지역에 대한 계통과 지리 인식은재소환되어, 현재 중국의 발해사 인식 형성에 큰 영향을 끼치게 된다.
Abstract
The Researches on Manchu Origins was compiled by the Qianlong Emperor to organize and systematize the history of the ancestors who founded the Qing Dynasty, thereby establishing the identity of Manchu and providing a basis for legitimacy and legitimacy for the Qing Dynasty’s ruling authority over the world. The Researches on Manchu Origins tried to explain the process by which the frozen Baeksan and Heuksu areas were continuously occupied and developed by the origins of Manchu, their ancestors, after the Suksin period. It focused on Jin and Balhae as the connecting links between Manchu and the origins of Manchu. In particular, Balhae is noted as the basis for the creation of Qing letters, that is, the origin of civilization. It was also essential to explain the unclear territorial relationship of the eastern part beforeand after Balhae. This lineage design of Balhae-Jin-Qing was intended to emphasize that Qing did not simply rule China by force, but was a civilized being with letters from the time of Balhae, had already become the supreme ruler of the world during the Jin Dynasty, and had systematically organized and ruled the territory during both periods, and then continued with Qing(Manchu). However, in order to bring Balhae into the unified lineage of the Manchurian origins, the existence of Goguryeo, whose succession relationship with Joseon was recognized, had to be intentionally erased. In order to fill the historical gap created by the artificial exclusion of Goguryeo and to assert that they belonged to the ‘gentry nation(君子國)’ of the East, the Three Hans, Silla, and Baekje were linked to the origins of Manchu. However, as examined above, the Origins design plan of the Researches on Manchu Origins was not thorough. However, in the midst of the heightening of external crises in the late Qing Dynasty and the modern Republic of China period, the Origins and geographical awareness of the Researches on Manchu Origins regarding the northeastern region of China was recalled, and it had a great influence on the formation of the current Chinese perception of Balhae history.
