1990년대 이후 중국이 애국주의의 이름으로, 그리고 대중화주의라는 관념으로 민족주의를 선양하는 것은 현대화 정책으로 이완되고 있는 사회주의 이데올로기의 공백을메우고 ‘중화부흥’의 차원에서 중국 공산당의 통치이데올로기를 재정립함으로써 체제전환 과정의 분열요인을 사전에 예방하는데 있다. 중국 정부는 계급주의가 아니라 ‘중화’라는 민족적 문화적 차원의 민족주의 국가 이데올로기를 통하여 국가통합을 공고히 하고 경제발전을 지속적으로 추진함으로써 국세(國勢)의 부상을 도모하는 것을 목표하고 있는 것이다. 중국의 민족주의는 정부가 주도하는 애국주의 역사교육, 서부지역에 대한 한화정책과 동북지역에 대한 역사공정, 대내통제과 대외팽창을 함께 도모하는 대중화주의로 동원된다. 이러한 중국의 국가민족주의에는 집단과 문화가 압도할뿐 개인과 시민은 발견하기 힘들다. 21세기 중국 민족주의는 시민민족주의의 구조화보다는 국가민족주의적 동원으로 그 집단성과 배타성이 지속될 것이다.
Abstract
This study analyses the feature and the structure of Chinese contemporary nationalism. The nationalist eruption since 1990’s shows the ideological change and the new social tendency of contemporary China since the reform and the open-door policy. Our research regards the Chinese contemporary nationalism as statist ideology which consolidate national unity and enhance economic development in the process of system change from socialism to capitalism. Actual Chinese authoritarian government,different from totalitarian state of Mao Tsedong, mobilize the nationalist measurements such as patriotism education, massive immigration of chinese people into the western inner China, and the claim of historical sovereignty in north east China. Chinese state nationalism emphasis the collectivism of national unity and the superiority of confucian greater China rather than ensure civic and minority rights.
