본 연구는 위기청소년에게 직접 찾아가는 전문상담자인 청소년동반자의 활동 경험의 실체를 파악하고 청소년동반자 프로그램이 앞으로 효율적으로 운영되기 위한 방안을 모색하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 청소년동반자 활동경험이 1년 이상 된 청소년동반자 15명을 대상으로 심층면접을 실시하고 근거이론 방법을 적용하여 자료를 분석하였다. 근거자료를 분석한 결과 48개의 개념과 18개의 하위 범주 및 14개의 범주가 나타났고 청소년동반자활동 경험에 대한 패러다임모형이 도출되었다. 청소년동반자가 경험하는 중심현상은 ‘정체성 혼란’으로 나타났다. 청소년동반자가 경험하는 정체성 혼란은 ‘활동자체의 특성’, ‘청소년동반자에 대한 인식 부족’, ‘고용형태’와 같은 맥락적 요인과 밀접한 관련이 있었다. 청소년동반자의 정체성 혼란은 소명의식, 지지적 인간관계, 상담효과와 같은 중재적 조건에 따라 차이를 보여주었으며 ‘정체성 혼란’에 대해 자기성찰과 재충전 및 함께 공유하기와 같은 전략을 사용하며 대처해 나갔다. 그 결과 청소년동반자 활동경험은 ‘소진’, ‘전문가로서 자리매김’과 같은 현상을 도출하였다. 본 연구결과를 바탕으로 청소년동반자프로그램 사업이 정착화되고 효과적으로 운영되기 위한 정책적인 방안을 제시하였다.
Abstract
This study aims both to understand the actual experiences of a youth companion, a professional counselor that visits youth who are in danger or crisis, and to seek a plan for the efficient operation of the Youth Companion Program. For this research, in-depth interviews were conducted on 15 Youth Companions with more than one year of field experience in the Youth Companion Program and a grounded theory methodology was used to analyze the data collected. Through the data analysis, 48 concepts, 18 sub-categories and 14 categories were found, and a paradigm pattern was drawn as well. A central phenomenon experienced by many youth companions was ‘identity confusion’. The identity confusion experienced by a youth companion is closely related to contextual factors, such as ‘the characteristics of the activity itself,’ ‘lack of awareness of the youth companion program,’ and ‘the employment type’. The identity confusion felt by a youth companion was shown to have different levels depending on the counselor’s consideration of counseling as a ‘calling,’ whether or not the relationship with the counselee was supportive in nature, and the effect of the counseling in which he or she was involved such as interveing conditions.. The Youth Companions surveyed coped with their feeling of identity confusion by utilizing strategies such as self-reflection, refreshment, and sharing their feelings with others. As a result, the experience as a youth companion gave the counselors feelings of ‘exhaustion,’ or ‘becoming as a professional’, Based on the results of this research, a plan for the successful establishment and effective operation of the Youth Companion Program Project is presented.
