Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms, internet over-use, and depression in high school students(n = 1,360) of vocational track. For this study, students self-reports data from 1,360 high school students of Busan metropolitan-city were collected. The results of the study are as follows. ADHD group displayed higher mean scores on the measure of internet over-use than Non-ADHD group. Students who meet the diagnostic criteria of the inattentive, the hyperactive -impulsive, and the combined type are more likely to higher depression scores than those of Non-ADHD group. According to ADHD subtype, there are no differences on depression among ‘internet user group at high-risk’, ‘internet user group at potential-risk’, and ‘normal internet user group’. However, in the Non-ADHD group as well as total student group ‘internet user group at high-risk’ displayed higher depression symptoms than the other groups. Based on the results of multiple regression, the level of depression increases when the level of internet-use increases in the both of group of students who reporting lower ADHD symptoms and who reporting higher ADHD symptoms. According to these results, findings and implications are discussed.
