Abstract
The Korean society is fastest aging country in the world. The purpose of this study was to explore predictive factors of Korean counseling graduate students' willingness to provide counseling for older adults in order to prepare for the increasing mental health demands of Korean older adults. 218 counseling graduates students from the city of Seoul, Incheon, Daejeon, and the province of Kyunggi and Chungnam were surveyed to determine the influence of age, gender, cohabitating experience with of older relative, volunteer experience with older adults, closeness with older adults, experience of with aging course, aging anxiety, and attitude towards aging on willingness to provide counseling for older adults. Multinomial logistic regression was used to determine the influence of various factors on willingness to provide counseling for older adults. Findings suggest that graduates students' age, gender, closeness with older adults, experience with aging course, and attitude toward aging significantly predicted willingness to provide counseling for older adults. However, cohabitation experience with older relative and aging anxiety did not reach significance. Based on the results, suggestions for gerontological counseling education was provided and implications, limitations, and future directions for research were discussed.
