중학교 담임교사의 아동기 부모양육경험이 교사가 지각한 교사-학생 관계에 미치는 영향: 성인애착의 매개효과

본 연구는 중학교 담임교사가 아동기에 경험한 부모 돌봄과 과보호가 학급 학생들과의 친밀 또는 갈등 관계에 미치는 영향을 살펴봄에 있어 성인기의 불안 및 회피 애착의 매개 역할을 조사하였다. 서울지역에 소재하는 17개 중학교의 담임교사 345명으로부터 수집된 자료를 분석한 결과, 아동기 부모의 정서적 돌봄은 학생들과의 친밀한 관계를 직접 예측하거나 성인기의 회피 애착을 통해 예측하는 반면, 부모의 과보호적 통제는 성인기의 불안 애착을 통해 학생들과의 갈등 관계를 예측하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 아동기에 부모로부터 방임이나 거절을 많이 경험한 교사일수록 성인기에 친밀한 관계 형성을 회피하고 지나치게 독립적인 경향이 있음을 보여주는데, 이렇게 아동기에 부모로부터 방임과 거절을 많이 받고 성인기에 회피 애착을 보이는 교사일수록 학생들과의 관계에서 친밀함을 적게 느끼는 경향이 있음을 나타낸다. 반면, 아동기에 부모와의 관계에서 과보호와 통제를 많이 경험한 교사일수록 성인기에 의존적이고 지나치게 밀착된 관계를 갈망하는 경향이 있는데, 이렇게 아동기에 과보호를 받고 성인기에 불안애착을 보이는 교사일수록 학생들과의 관계에서 갈등을 더 경험하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 상담적, 교육적 의의가 연구의 제한점과 추후 연구 과제 및 방향과 함께 논의되었다.

Abstract

This study examined pathways in which adult attachment mediate relationship between class teachers’ childhood parenting experience and their perception of teacher-student relationship. Results of analysis of data from 345 class teachers from 17 middle schools in Seoul indicated that childhood parental care predicted close relationship with students both directly and through avoidant attachment, whereas parental overprotection predicted conflictual relationship through anxious attachment. These findings suggest that teachers who experienced childhood parental neglect are more likely to avoid intimacy and want independence in relationship. Teachers who experienced parental neglect and have avoidant attachment tend to feel less closeness with students. In contrast, teachers who experienced childhood parental overprotection and control are more likely to want excessive dependence and intimacy. Teachers who experienced parental overprotection and want excessive intimacy tend to feel more conflict with students. Clinical implications of these findings were discussed with limitations and future directions of this study.
