Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine phase changes with client’s unfinished emotions toward a specific person while conducting ‘empty chair dialogues’ sessions in Gestalt therapy. For this purpose, nine records of ‘empty chair dialogue’ sessions and nine interviews with the clients who completed the sessions were analyzed. The focus was on addressing which stage gave rise to the positive change in clients. As a result of comprehensive process analysis, four stages of change and nineteen sub-units of change were found. Four stages were self-awareness stage, visualizing stage, confronting/conversing stage, and integrating stage respectively. Experiences of the clients going through each stage and sub-unit were described and discussed in a detailed way, along with positive changes therein.
