Abstract
This study examined cluster types among high school students based on the use of seven learning motivational regulation strategies presented by Lee(2003) on the basis of Schwinger, von der Laden, & Spinath’s(2007) motivational regulation strategies. In addition, this study examined the difference between cluster types on metacognitive and behavioral regulation, and academic achievement. 354 high school students in Seoul and Gyunggi area were participated. Cluster analysis revealed five subgroups of students; low profile, goal-focused profile, intrinsic strategy-focused profile, high profile, and extrinsic strategy-focused profile. High profile group were used the most on metacognitive regulation such as planning, monitoring, modifying and on behavioral regulation such as behavioral control, time-management, help-seeking, which was followed by intrinsic and extrinsic strategy-focused profile group, and goal-focused profile group, whereas low profile group were used the least on them. Also, low and extrinsic strategy-focused profile groups showed the lowest grade, no significant differences between the above two groups, on the other hand, high, intrinsic and goal-focused profile groups showed higher grade than low profile group. Finally, the implications and limitations of this study were discussed.
