(Fear of Missing Out: FoMO),
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the sequential mediating effects of SNS addiction proneness and envy in the relationship between Fear of missing out(FoMO) and depression. Participants were 304 university students. Modified-FoMO Questionaire, SNS Addiction Proneness Scale, DES, CES-D Scale were used for the measurement. Trait FoMO was positively correlated with SNS addiction proneness, envy, depression. State FoMO was significantly positively correlated with SNS addiction proneness and envy, but not with depression. As the result of mediating effect verification of SNS addiction proneness and envy in the relationship between trait FoMO, state FoMO and depression, the sequential mediating effect of SNS addiction proneness and envy was significant. Additionally, it was also found that the indirect path sequentially mediated by SNS addiction and envy through state FoMO was significant in the relationship between trait FoMO and depression. Based on the results of this study, implications of counseling practice and directions for further research were discussed.
