Abstract
The polemics that Levinas makes against Heidegger is so decisive in the formation of his philosophy that he sets himself the philosophical task to overcome Heidegger. This polemics is often presented as one that resides between ontology and ethics. But this opposition should not be understood as one concerning the division of philosophical disciplines, but as one between two different modes of religious existence. In other words, the frontier which Levinas traces between Hellenism and Hebraism doesn’t pass so much between philosophy and religon, than between (metaphysics based on the) nature-religion and (metapysics based on the) revelation-religion. The kernel of the nature-religious experience that marks the tradition of the greek ontology leading up to Heidegger is considered by Levinas as the enjoyment of the being. The first part of this work intends to show with Levinas that the heideggerian ontology moves on the horizon of the enjoyment of the being. The nature-religion makes absolute the anonymous being and is totalitarian in mobilizing all the individuals in order that the enjoyment of the being may be achieved. According to Levinas, the heideggerian process which consists in reducing the subjectivity to a fonction of the being amounts to the mechanism characteristic of this totalitarianism. The latter part of this paper aims to show this aspect of heideggerian thought.
