‘샤를리에브도’ 사태에 대한 프랑스, 미국, 한국 언론보도의 의미망 비교 분석

본 연구는 표현의 자유, 이민자 정책, 뉴스 프레이밍과 텍스트분석에 대한이론적 논의를 바탕으로 2015년 1월 7일 프랑스에서 발생한 ‘샤를리에브도’ 사태에 대한 프랑스, 미국, 한국 언론 보도의 형식적 특징과 의미 구조를 살펴봄으로써 세 나라 언론보도를 비교분석하고 그 함의에 대해 논하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 각 국가의 유료신문 발행부수를 기준으로 일간지 상위 10개씩을 선정하고 샤를리에브도 사태가 발생한 이후 약 한 달간의 기사를 수집하여 기사 텍스트의 중심성 및 시맨틱 네트워크를 분석하였다. 분석결과 세 나라는 기사 텍스트, 중심성, 의미망에서 유사한 특성을 보이면서도 각국이 중요시하는 사안과역사, 매체철학에 따라 차별적인 보도 양상을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 샤를리에브도 사태에 대해 실증적 분석과 해석적 접근의 연결고리를 찾으려고 했다는 점, 인문학과 사회과학 내 학제간 연구를 시도했다는 점, 그리고 유럽, 미주, 아시아 지역 국가 간 비교를 통해 특정 현상에 대한 다양한 입장과해석의 방향을 탐색하려 했다는 점에서 의미가 있다.
Abstract
Newspapers present elite views and drive political or cultural discourse. This constructivist role of the media is generally referred to as framing. It enables a connection between news text and the production and reception processes. It highlights the construction of a meaning as a product of framing efforts by various actors in a wider context. This study aims to provide a structural understanding of media coverage of Charlie Hebdo and the Baga massacre through semantic analysis of Big Data gathered from top 10 newspapers in circulation in France, the U.S., and Korea. Results show newspapers in three countries varied in their presentation of news texts, frames and discourse based on each country’s cultural and political contexts. This interdisciplinary study contributes to the analysis of news contents on a comparative and global level through interdisciplinary research.
