Abstract

“After the end of religion, where should religion go?” This article seeks a new and true form of religion that will overcome the climate of modern atheism, with a focus on Hegel’s critique of religion and the prospect of alternative religion. From a historical point of view, Hegel’s speculative philosophy starts from a critical interest in the climate of atheism based on Kant’s critical philosophy. The critique of positive religion, subjective religion, and Secularism presented in his early writings, “Positivität der christlichen Religion” and “Glauben und Wissen,” is a preliminary work to prepare an alternative religion. Alternatively, his later works, Vorlesungen über die Philosophie der Religion, Grundlinien der Philosophie des Rechts, and Vorlesungen über die Philosophie der Geschichte present new religious prospects after the end of religion. Accordingly, in this paper, Iinfer two forms of alternative religions. The first is a philosophy of religion to overcome the limitations of true religion. This belief is the work of liberating God from a religious representation and extending it to the principle of life, that is, the work of demythologizing or translating religious language into everyday language. The second is civil religion to overcome the limitations of subjective religion. This religion is the work of expanding the previously attempted post-doctrinal Christianity as a political principle for human freedom, that is, the work of dereligionization that reconciles religion and reality. This approach is a philosophical attempt to establish a true religious idea in which truth and existence are reconciled on a modern horizon.
