Abstract

This study summarized activities of Ohweolhwe that has been neglected from previous studies on juvenile movement because of unknown reason. Ohweolhwe started in May, 1925 and dissolved in Feb. 1928. Despite the short time, it expanded the foundation of juvenile movement by conflicting or harmonizing with Bang Jung-hwan’s movement. Ohweolhwe continuously tried to publicize implicative politics in juvenile ballot. It made hard efforts to accomplish the intended goal in collaboration and cooperation with the upper organization by making the juvenile movement join in a liberation movement, and further the activity scope of juvenile movement was expanded to Manchuria. In particular, Ohweolhwe contributed to children’s literature a lot by attempting to criticize fairy tales, operating the local tour troupe, and starting children’s song movement. In addition, Ohweolhwe manufactured the juvenile literature work by itself and provided reading materials to children. Due to their effort, the early juvenile literary circles were made and children could experience the actual literature. Such contribution should be objectively evaluated for the right description of the juvenile literature history.
