Abstract

This study aims to explore the characteristics and educational significance of poetry featuring adolescent child narrators from the perspective of literary education. First, it examines the concept and developmental traits of early adolescence and discusses the need for their literary representation. It then analyzes the distinctive features of poetry that adopts adolescent children as speakers, and based on this analysis, derives pedagogical implications for literary education. In terms of form, such poetry often draws upon the poet’s autobiographical experiences, honestly conveying the emotions and memories of adolescence. The use of serial poem structures allows for the accumulation of emotional growth and the depiction of the narrator’s development over time. In terms of content, these poems vividly portray the confusion caused by bodily changes, emotional instability, and the simultaneous desire for both isolation and solidarity—often through concrete and sensory imagery. The educational significance of such poetry lies in its ability to help learners become aware of their own physical and emotional states, allowing them to objectively reflect on the realities of adolescence. Through the mediated expression of emotions by poetic narrators, these poems also support the release of suppressed feelings and anxieties. Furthermore, the poetic narratives that embed the theme of growth encourage learners to reflect on their own lives and to cultivate an active and forward-looking approach to their future. This study affirms that poetry featuring adolescent narrators serves as a meaningful resource for supporting emotional development and personal growth in literary education. Future empirical studies are needed to examine how such poems function in actual educational settings.
