Abstract

This study analyzes structural breaks in the yield spread of government bonds in three Asian countries and examines whether there is a change in persistence before and after the transition using the ARFIMA model. Assuming a Treasury-bill, the impact variables that cause structural break are analyzed in terms of the time-varying framework. The empirical results of this study are as follows. First, the period of structural breaks in the spread is estimated to be mid-to-late 2013, which shows that the influence of the US and European financial markets is the main cause of restructuring rather than Asia. Second, there was a change in the persistence of the spread based on the break date by country and maturity. Third, as a result of analyzing the impact of Treasury-bill on spreads, the impact of structural break has strengthened persistence in Korea and Thailand and weakened persistence in India.
