본 논문에서는 지적 재산권 보호의 국가간 차이가 한국 수출과 어떠한 관계를 갖는지 실증분석하였다. 무역에 대한 중력 모형을 이용하고 수입 국가들의 인구, 거리, 소득수준의 차이 등의 변수들을 통제변수로 하여, 한국의 수출액을 지적재산권 변수에 회귀 분석하여 다음의 결과를 얻었다. 첫째, 수입국의 지적재산권 보호가 강할수록 우리나라의 수출은 증가하는 경향이 있으며 그 정도는 특허집약산업일수록 크게 나타난다. 둘째, 수입국의 경제발전 수준이 높을수록 지적재산권 보호의 영향력이 커진다. 셋째, 모방 위협이 큰 국가일수록 그 국가의 지적재산권의 보호 강화가 한국 수출에 큰 영향을 미친다. 이러한 결과는 선진국의 무역자료를 이용한 기존의 연구들과 대체로 일치한다.
Abstract
This paper investigates the sensitivity of Korean exports to national differences in Intellectual Property Rights(IPRs) by using the gravity model of international trade. Ten major exports items are investigated and we found that Korea exports depend on the degree of IPRs protection of the importing countries. Furthermore, the sensitivity seems to be large when the threat of imitation is strong and the level of economic development is high. That is, Korea tends to export more to those countries where their patents are highly protected. This might show that the strengthening of the IPR protection in the importing countries enables Korea to export more.
