본 논문의 목적은 기존연구에서 주로 다루었던 산업내 무역의 결정요인을 분석하는 것과는 달리, 최근 국제경제의 큰 변화 중의 하나인 경제통합에 따른 물류인프라의 개선이 과연 산업내 무역에 어떠한 영향을 미칠 것인지를 동아시아의 실제자료를 이용하여 실증적으로 분석하고자 하는 것이다. 분석결과에 따르면 모든 추정모형에서 변수들이 이론적으로 모형이 예상하는 것과 부합되고 통계적 유의성도 높게 나타남으로써 산업내 무역이론이 동아시아 지역의 무역구조를 설명하는데 유용한 이론임을 확인시켜 주었다. 특히 본 논문에서 밝히고자 하였던 물류비용과 산업내 무역 간의 관계에서 무역상대국의 물류효율화는 양국 간 산업내무역에 직접적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타나 적어도 동아시아 지역 내에서는 무역상대국의 물류효율화가 높을수록 산업내 무역이 보다 심화되는 것으로 파악되었다.
Abstract
As multinational corporations(MNCs) have been active in globalizing their production networks, economists have considerable attention to the intra-industry trade. There are, however, hardly any empirical studies. This gap is an important shortcoming in the research, since investigating the links between the infrastructure and intra-industry trade opens up crucial questions. This paper addresses the link between infrastructure and intra-industry trade. Hence, unlike previous literature, this study provides a framework for the empirical study of how infrastructure affect intra-industry trade in East Asia. This paper finds that infrastructure directly affects inra-industry trade in East Asia. That is, it shows that infrastructure is quantitatively important in intra-industry trade, and improvements in infrastructure can increase intra-industry trade.
