본 연구에서는 독립적으로 발전되어온 세대 내 소득이동성의 개념을 활용하여우리나라의 세대간 소득탄력성을 추정하고 국제비교를 시도한다. 세대 내 소득이동성의 고저는 세대간 소득이동성과 두 가지 경로로 연계되는 데, 1) 세대 효용극대화 경제행위를 통한 자녀세대에 대한 투자행위에 영향을 미치고 2)단년도 세대간 소득탄력성의 추정편의의 크기를 결정한다. 본 연구는 외환위기의 높은 부모세대 내 소득이동성이 단년도 소득으로 측정되는 세대간 소득탄력성에서 하향편의를 증가시키고, 세대 자원배분과정을 통해 높은 세대간 소득이동성을 유발함을 보인다.
Abstract
We reestimate the intergenerational income elasticity in Korea by applying the errors-in-variable regression method with intra-generational income elasticity as a reliability ratio. We show that the high intra-generational income mobility can bring a large downward bias in measured intergenerational income elasticity with yearly earnings and a low intergenerational income elasticity through intergenerational utility maximizing behavior.
