Abstract
This research study looks at the creative dance programs appropriately developed for the elderly, and its effects on the enjoyment of the elderly. In order to achieve the above, first of all the creative dance programs which were suitable for the elderly were developed and used as a foundation. Secondly, the developed 6-week long creative dance program was looked at in terms of relation to 5 subordinate factors (confidence, interest, maintenance of health and aesthetical experience, sociality and creativity) and what kind of effects it had. In particular, the differences before and after participation of the 6-week program were examined through the use of Paired t-test(twotailed). In addition the effects of creative dance were looked at in terms of concrete cause examinations. In order to achieve this 5 out of 20 subjects underwent random sampling and thorough interviews were also carried out. The results of the research show that firstly that before and after the 6-week duration of the creative dance program the statistics for confidence among the elderly increased by (t19=-7.75, p=.001). Secondly, before and after the 6-week duration of the creative dance program the statistics for interest showed an increase of (t19=-5.68, p=.001). Thirdly, before and after the 6-week duration of the creative dance program the statistics for maintenance of health and aesthetical experience showed an increase of (t19=-6.33, p=.001). Fourth, before and after the 6-week duration of the creative dance program the statistics for sociality showed an increase of (t19=-4.77, p=.001). Fifth, before and after the 6-week duration of the creative dance program the statistics for creativity showed an increase of (t19=-6.63, p=.001). Overall, the 6-week creative dance program had a positive effect on the enjoyment of the elderly. Such a positive conclusion could be confirmed through qualitative research and the results from such qualitative research are as follows. Through the participation in creative dancing, participants of the study could experience a feeling of becoming physically healthier. In particular due to the fact that it provided the feeling of reduced stress levels, the attraction, interest, happiness and curiosity in relation to creative dance could be experienced psychologically. In addition, the expression of creativity, imagination and improvising could be presented in class, providing a sense of achievement regarding their own reflections, at the same time creating confidence. In particular the elderly who were more passive in terms of sociality could experience physical contact with others, achieving psychological stability and an improvement in people skills. As a conclusion through quantitative and qualitative methods it was found that creative dance programs had a positive effect on enjoyment of the elderly, (with confidence, interest, maintenance of health and aesthetical experience, sociality and creativity included as subordinate factors of enjoyment). In succeeding research study the effects of creative dance programs will be looked at in relation to various age ranges and gender and the amount of participants will be increased, creating standardization for focus.
