네덜란드공화국 유입 중국도자가 델프트 도기에 미친 영향

본 논문은 네덜란드공화국 시절 유입된 중국도자가 델프트도기에 미친 영향과 그 한계를 고찰하는데 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 델프트도기의 최대 수장처인 암스텔담의 라익스박물관(Rijksmuseum)과 생산지였던 델프트의 로얄델프트 공방, 델프트의 네덜란드 동인도회사 유적 등지를 답사하여 관련 자료의 촬영과 문헌자료 등을 수집하였다. 또한 선행연구와 관련 문헌자료 분석을바탕으로 17 세기 네덜란드공화국의 성립과 동인도회사의 성립, 델프트도기의 생산배경을 분석하였다. 더불어 17 세기 네덜란드 정물화에 나타난 중국도자의 문양과 기형, 양식 등을 실제 델프트도기와 비교, 고찰하여 당시 네덜란드인의 생활에 스며든 중국도자의 용도와 영향을 살펴보고 이를 통해중국 도자 모방의 변천과 델프트도기에 미친 중국도자 영향의 한계를 고찰하였다. 델프트도기는 전통적인 네덜란드 도기 제작의 토대와 수요층을 바탕으로 막대한 양으로 수입되던 중국자기의 모방과 변용을 시도하였다. 전통적인 중국 크락 양식의 기형과 문양의 불완전한 모방에서 점차 중국적인 기형 혹은 기본 문양 구도에 유럽 장식이 더해지거나 완전한 네덜란드식 도기로변용되었다. 델프트를 중심으로 활동하던 솜씨 좋은 네덜란드의 화가와 장인들은 유럽식 풍경을 청화 화면에 담기 시작하였고 기형 역시 네덜란드 음식기나 장식기명을 제작하기 시작하였다. 델프트도기는 원료의 한계로 18 세기 이후 독일 마이센자기에 밀려 최고 수준의 자리에 머물지 못했지만 쉬느와즈리의 열풍 속에서 중국 청화백자를 주석 백유 도기 위에 모방, 재현하였고 유럽 도기생산에 있어 중요한 자리를 점하였다는 점에서 그 도자사적 의의가 크다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to examine the influence of Chinese export porcelain onDelftware and its limitations during the Dutch Republic era. This research is based on theliterature references and images collected from the field trips to Amsterdam Museum(Rijksmuseum) and former producer of Delft Royal Delft ruins of the workshop, the Dutch EastIndia Company in Delft. Furthermore, I have analyzed previous studies and analyzed relevantliterature on 17th-century Dutch Republic and the also the establishment of the East IndiaCompany, and background history of Delft pottery production. I have also compared images ofChinese porcelain depicted on 17th century Dutch still-life painting with actual Delftware forpatterns and forms to study the usage and its influence on Delft pottery. Based on traditional ceramics production, Delft pottery substituted domestic market withimitations of imported Chinese porcelain. Its shape and form were various from Kraak style intraditional form of Chinese export porcelain or added Europe decorations which graduallychanged to Dutch pottery. A skillful Dutch painter and artisans decorated Delftware and theforms were also accustomed to Dutch life style. The production of Delftware decreased when Meissen in Germany produced its fine wares in18th century. However, Delftware is significant in European ceramic production history byimitating and recreating Chinese porcelain on its tin glazed pottery.
