공공외교의 관점에서 본 대학 PR: 대학-유학생 관계성이 대학에 대한 태도 그리고 국가에 대한태도 및 행동의도에 미치는 영향에 관한 탐색적 연구

초록

최근 국내 대학들로의 외국인 유학생 유입이 증가하는 가운데, 본 연구는 조직-공중 관계성(Organization- Public Relationship: OPR) 이론을 바탕으로 대학-유학생 간 전략적 PR 커뮤니케이션의 필요성에 대해 알아보고, 나아가 대학-유학생 관계성이 공공외교적인 측면에서 지니는 의의에 대해서 실증적으로 분석해 보았다. 이를 위해 서울 소재 대학들에서 유학 중인 중국인 학생들을 대상으로 설문조사를 진행하였고, 구조방정식 모형을 통해 연구 가설들을 통계적으로 검증하였다. 분석 결과, 대학-유학생 관계를 이루는 여섯 가지구성요인들 중, 특히 신뢰, 헌신, 만족, 그리고 공존적 관계성이 수학중인 대학에 대한 태도를 설명하는 데유의미한 변인들인 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 대학에 대한 태도는 대한민국에 대한 국가 태도와 유의미한 정적상관관계에 있었으며, 국가에 대한 긍정적 태도는 재방문 의도와 긍정적 구전 의도를 끌어올리는 요인인 것으로 밝혀졌다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 국내 대학 환경의 국제화 추세에 맞추어 공공외교의 관점에서 본 대학PR의 중요성과 가치에 대해서 논의하였다.

Abstract

This study aimed to empirically analyze university-foreign student relationships based on the theoretical concept of organization-public relationship(OPR) and, further, helped understand the implications of such relationships from a public diplomacy perspective. A survey revealed that trust, commitment, satisfaction, and communal relationship were significant predictors for foreign students’ attitudes toward the university they were attending in Korea. Attitudes toward the university, in turn, were significantly related to foreign students’ attitudes toward Korea. Finally, their attitudes toward Korea influenced their behavioral intentions toward Korea as well. Theoretical and practical implications of the research findings were discussed in view of university public relations strategies and public diplomacy.
