젠더화 된 계층 경험과 페미니즘에 대한 태도 : 20대 하층 계층 여성들의 젠더 불평등에 대한 간파와 제약

초록

여성들의 젠더 불평등에 대한 간파나 문제의식 확장을 제약하는데 계층은 어떠한 방식으로 영향을 미치는가? 본 연구는 청소년기 및 초기 성인기를 “홀로” 살아온 것으로 이야기하는 20대 여성들에게 낮은 계층적 지위가 경험된 방식을 중심으로 이 과정을 탐색했다. 이 여성들은 계층적 지위를 남성중심적 이성애 관계와 서비스 노동 중심으로 경험했고, 그 과정에서 여성의 섹슈얼리티가 남성의 경제력과 등가 교환되지 못하는 강제적 이성애 및 외모 관리가 강력한 노동 규준으로 작동하는 서비스 노동시장에 편입해 생존할 수밖에 없는 자신의 위치를 간파했다. 하지만 섹슈얼리티 이외의 대안적 생존 자원 부재, 서비스 노동시장의 강력한 성별직무분리 관행은 전통적 성역할 규범의 자연화와 여성 노동자간 소외를 야기하면서 젠더 불평등에 대한 집합적 저항 문화의 형성을 제약했다. “홀로” 생존하는 과정에서 구조화된 디지털 플랫폼의 활용 경로 및 디지털 페미니즘 담론의 한계 역시 이들로 하여금 직관과 부분적 지식을 우선하게 만들었다. 여하한 사회자본 없이 생존해 온 삶에 대한 자부심은 역설적으로 능력주의와 신자유주의 이데올로기 수용을 심화시키며 젠더 구조의 변혁을 꾀하려는 페미니즘 정치에 대한 소극적 태도를 형성했다.

Abstract

How does social status influence the formation of young women’s attitudes toward feminism today? This study explores this process by focusing on the ways in which low socioeconomic status has been experienced by women in their 20s who describe having lived 'alone' during adolescence and early adulthood. These women experienced social status primarily through male-dominated heterosexual relationships and service labor. In the process, they penetrated their position as one where women’s sexuality is not equally exchanged with men’s economic power, compelling them to survive in a service labor market where compulsory heterosexuality and appearance management operate as powerful labor norms. However, the lack of alternative survival resources beyond sexuality and the strong gender-based job segregation in the service labor market led to the naturalization of traditional gender role norms and alienation among female workers, hindering the formation of a collective culture of resistance against gender inequality. The structured use of digital platforms and the limitations of digital feminist discourses in their survival strategies further prioritized intuition and partial knowledge. Paradoxically, pride in having survived without any social capital deepened the acceptance of neoliberal ideologies such as meritocracy and individual accountability, fostering a passive attitude toward feminist politics that seek to transform gender structures.
