Abstract
This paper aims to analyze the relationship between IT - profitability and IT - market valuation, using domestic firm-level data. For this purpose, I first examine whether IT contributes profitability using commonly-used indexes such as ROA, ROE. Second, by using a different measure for profitability, that is, market valuations in stock market, I again examine whether IT contributes profitability. The major results are as follows. First, there is no relationship between IT and profitability when ROA, ROE are used. Second. I found evidence for such relationship as larger IT stock or decentralization in an organization leads to larger market valuation, but the degree is rather weak. Third, the cross effects of IT and organizational changes is found to be negative, which would provide the following implications: the domestic firms seem to achieve still insufficient organizational changes and decentralized processes for IT to have real effects.
