금융경쟁력 결정요인에 대한 실증연구

이 논문은 금융허브추진을 위한 정책방향을 실증적 연구를 통해 파악하는 것을 동기로 하였다. 구체적으로 이 논문의 경제학적 질문은 “어떤 경제변수가 한 국가의 금융경쟁력과 가장 관련이 깊은가?”이다. 이 논문의 결과는 다음과 같이 요약할 수 있다. 첫째, 인구가 2000만 이상인 대국은 자본 유출입의 활성화 정도, 기업관련법규(business legislation)의 경쟁 및 기업친화성 정도가 금융경쟁력에 유의미한 영향을 미친다. 둘째, 1인당 국민소득이 1만 5천 달러 이상인 부국은 사유재산권 보호, 정치적 안정, 인종적ㆍ성적ㆍ소득 분배상의 평등정도 등 사회의 질적 수준을 나타내는 ‘사회안정성(societal framework)'이 금융경쟁력에 유의미한 영향력을 가지고 있다. 이 논문이 대국이면서 부국인 우리나라에 주는 정책적 시사점은, 기업관련법규의 경쟁 및 기업친화성 강화와 사회의 질적 수준 제고가 성공적인 금융허브추진을 위한 금융경쟁력 향상에 핵심적 역할을 한다는 것이다.
Abstract
The motivation of this paper is to empirically find out the policy directions for making a financial hub in Korea. Concretely the economic question is which economic variables are closely related with the financial competitiveness of a country. The results of this paper can be summarized as follows. First, international investment and the business legislation favorable to enterprises and competition have significant explanatory power to the financial competitiveness of the large countries whose population is more than 20 million. Second, ‘societal framework' which represents the quality level of a society, such as private property right, political stability, equality in race, gender, and income distribution, has a significant impact on the financial competitiveness of the rich countries whose per-capita income is above 15 thousand dollars. The policy implication of the result for Korea, which is large and rich respectively in terms of population and per-capita income, is that ‘societal framework’ and the business legislation favorable to enterprises and competition are the important factors to improve the financial competitiveness of Korea.
