엔화환율 변동이 한국의 수출에 미치는 영향

본 논문의 목적은 엔화환율과 우리나라 수출의 관계를 분석하는 것이다. 일본은 한국과산업구조나 수출품목 등에서 직접적인 경쟁관계에 있는 나라이다. 따라서 일본 엔화의 변화는수출주도형 경제인 한국의 수출에 직접적인 영향을 미치게 된다. 기존 연구에 따르면 엔화환율은우리나라의 수출에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 알려져 있지만, 이에 대한 학문적인 연구는그 중요도에 비해서 많지 않은 편이다. 본 연구는 엔화환율이 재화특성별, 품목별, 수출 국가별로우리나라의 수출에 어떻게 영향을 미치는지를 일관된 분석틀에서 실증분석을 수행하였다. 실증분석 결과 엔화환율은 전체적으로 우리나라의 수출에 부(-)의 영향을 주는 변수로 나타났으나그 영향력은 재화특성별, 품목별, 수출 국가별로 모두 상이한 것으로 확인되었다. 특히 2008년글로벌 금융위기 이후 주요 수출품목 및 수출 대상 국가들을 중심으로 우리나라 수출이 엔화환율의영향에서 벗어나고 있음을 보여주었다.
Abstract
This paper examines the relationship between Japanese yen and the exports of South Korea. Japan and South Korea have very similar industrial structures and have many export itemsin common. Therefore, the change of Japanese yen critically affects the exports of SouthKorea which has export-oriented economic structure. Previous literature shows that yennegatively affects Korean exports, but, unfortunately, academic research on this topic hasbeen relatively rare. This paper estimates the effects of yen on Korean exports in termsof the characteristics of goods, detailed items, and export target countries. The results showthat the effects of yen are different with respect to the characteristics of goods, detaileditems, and export target countries. In particular, it was shown that the influence of yen onthe exports of South Korea began to attenuate in a few export items and export target countries,especially after the 2008 global financial crisis.
