Abstract
This study examines the relationship between population concentration ratio in local area and growth rate in the 5 regions of Korea during 1989~2011, by using POLS and 2SLS. The results indicate (i) An inverted U-shaped relationship between the degree of regional primacy and economic growth is not significant, (ii) the effect of capital region’s primacy is negative effect and significant. The evidence implies that the Capital Region concentrated to population and infrastructure more affects economy growth of the other local area in South Korea.
