Abstract
This study explores the concrete aspects of an early childhood teacher’s curriculum enactment through everyday lived experiences and analyzes the meanings embedded in those experiences through the lens of critical pedagogy, focusing on conscientization, critical thinking, and praxis. To achieve this, a narrative inquiry approach was employed, and data were collected through in-depth interviews and participant observation over a three-month period. The findings revealed the following: First, curriculum implementation by the early childhood teacher emerged as a continuous sensory and emotional practice of perceiving and responding to the needs of young children. Second, excessive child-to-teacher ratios, insufficient physical and emotional support, and rigid schedules and operational structures constrained the teacher’s professionalism, reducing practice to mere endurance. Third, the teacher expressed regret and reflection over missed opportunities for curriculum enactment due to structural constraints. Based on these results, this study interprets the teacher’s practice not as a matter of individual will or lack of professionalism but as an issue rooted in the structural conditions and power relations within the educational field. This study contributes to a reflective understanding of the conditions necessary for the substantive implementation of early childhood–centered curricula.
