교내 체벌의 경험, 유의점에 대한 인식: 현직 및 예비교사를 대상으로

본 연구는 학교에서 학생들에게 행할 수 있는 교내 체벌의 범위와 한계가 어디까지인가를 살펴보고, 인권을 고려한 교내 체벌 방식을 탐색하려는 것이다. 현재 우리나라에서 직접 체벌은 금지된 상태이므로 현직교사와 예비교사로 이루어진 교육대학원생을 대상으로 간접적인 체벌을 중심으로 그 경험과 인식을 조사하고, 앞으로 학교현장에서 체벌을 할 때 유의점에 대한 조사도 함께 이루어졌다. 본 연구참여자는 D 교육대학원생 50명으로 ‘교육심리’ 강좌 2개 반을 수강한 현직교사와 예비교사들이다. 이들은 교내 체벌의 경험과 인식에 대한 설문 응답에 자신의 의견을 자유롭게 작성하였다. 연구대상자들이 작성한 설문지를 이용하여 내용분석이 이루어졌는데, 질적연구방법 절차에 따라 분석이 이루어졌다. 교육대학원생들은 학생의 훈육을 위해 다양한 방법들을 활용하고 있었다. 학급회의를 통해 자율적으로 정한 체벌 방식을 따르거나 다양한 체벌 중에서 학생에게 선택권을 부여하는 방식으로 민주적인 방식과 학생의 개인 성향을 고려한 체벌을 활용해야 한다고 하였다. 그리고 교사와 학생간의 신뢰감을 바탕으로 하는 성찰하기, 역할극 참여하기와 같은 체벌 등이 행해지고 있었다. 그리고 이들은 교내 체벌을 할 때, 유의점에 대한 다양한 의견을 보여주었다. 본 연구결과를 토대로 교사가 학교에서 학생들의 행동을 지도할 수 있는 훈육방안에 대한 방향이 제안되었다.
Abstract
This study examines the scope and limits of corporal punishment in schools, exploring approaches that consider students’ human rights. A survey was conducted with 50 current and prospective teachers enrolled in an “Educational Psychology” teacher training program at D Graduate School of Education. Since direct corporal punishment is currently prohibited in Korea, the survey questions invited the participants to share their experiences and perceptions of indirect corporal punishment in schools as well as their views on precautions that should be considered when such practices are employed. Using qualitative content analysis, the study identified a range of disciplinary methods used by the graduate school students in education. They emphasized that disciplinary practices should be administered in a democratic and individualized manner, either by employing punishment methods determined through class meetings or by allowing students to choose from several options.
