Abstract

When considering ‘Chakmun’(冊文), the utensils with craft-work forms used in the real rite usually in the past, first come to mind, because, releases by exhibitions or pictorial records, or studies of researchers have mainly focused on it so far. However, there are different kinds of Chakmun such as Takyinbon and transcribed copy, so we need to study on them as well as Chakmun to make it understand as a whole. Therefore, this article aims to examine Takyinbon among them. But targeted materials of this study were defined to the collection(219 items of 118 kinds produced between 1793 to 1926) of Changseogak, where now, possesses the most volume of Chakmun Takyinbon. First for preceding works of Chakmun study, it was classified into its form and contents, and based on such works, its morphological characteristics were examined after considering morphological, content and periodical distribution of Takyinbon in possession of Changseogak. With these works, this research has a purpose to illuminate Chakmun's values as historical data. So far, Chakmun's values as historical data have tended to be undervalued, because its historical facts are not outwardly disclosed and it includes strong eulogies on the objects by courtesy. However, Chakmun is not just outcome of certain rite performances. As shown in the examples such as honoring after death of the previous generation by Gojong or eulogistic title of Queen Sinjeong, Chakmun not only, symbolically reflects the troubles of those days, but shows that many things hidden are also historical reality. In other words, when understanding metaphors and symbols undisclosed on the surface of Chakmun, we can properly know its values as historical data. This article, therefore, aims to only focus on ‘Takyinbon’ excepting for transcribed copy or Chakmun of crafts in order to study on Chakmun totally. But, for want of space, in this study, production (process and materials) and use of Takyinbon were not mentioned.
