Abstract
Ever since the concept of "Sustainable Development" was introduced, there is no internationally standardized system with which to compare and evaluate sustainable development between nations and regions. This paper aims to develop sustainable development indicators (SDIs) suitable for North-east Asian countries, and to evaluate the degree of regional sustainable development through a comparative study on SDIs. Related with sustainable development of Korea, Japan and China, the indicators are selected by referring to the SDIs of the international organizations and nations. In particular, correction, addition, and deletion are used in order to constitute indicator systems suitable for the actual circumstances of these three countries based on the indicators of the UN. 4 sectors, 43 indicators, in this paper, are selected as regional SDIs. The comparative analysis of regional SDIs provides that Korea, Japan and China show similar path of sustainable development by but have different time lag.
