통계조사의 전 과정에서 발생하는 오차에는 표본오차와 비표본오차로 나눌 수 있으나 비표본오차에 관한 연구는 그 중요성에 비해 상대적으로 연구되고 있지 않다고 볼 수 있다. 본 논문에서 다루고자 하는 것은 설문문항의 응답항목의 구성에 의한 비표본오차를 살펴보고자 한다. 구체적으로 응답항목내용, 응답항목제시 순서, 중간응답항목 유무에 따른 응답경향 및 인구특성에 따른 응답경향도 살펴보고자 한다.통계청 소비자전망 조사표를 바탕으로 응답항목의 구성을 달리하는 5가지 유형의 설문지를 작성하여 2007년 3월 한 달 동안 조사를 실시하였다. 결과 응답항목제시순서에 따른 응답률의 차이는 없었으며 중간응답항목 유무에 따른 응답경향 및 인구특성에 따른 응답경향은 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
This paper investigated the responding trend which might cause non-sampling errors when the respondents would be asked to rating questions. We considered several points which would be issued when formulating a rating question. First, how many categories and what ordering type the rating scale should have? Second, whether the neutral alternative should be included? Third, whether a category such as "Do not know" might be included? 5 questionnaires each of which has different type of rating questions were gunerated and used for a test survey.Comparative analysis was done to confirm the response trends about the difference between ascending and descending orders of the rating categories, the pattern of the respondents selecting the neutral alternative and their possible reaction when they were forced to choose only from 4 categories without the neutral alternative.
