고려 침몰선 출수 목간의 제작과 작성에 대한 연구(1)- 목간 필적과 제작의 동일성 검토를 중심으로 -

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to observe and examine the ‘uniformity in production and writing’ of 177(pieces) wooden tablets in Four Goryeo Dynasty shipwrecks that preserved the traces of use and were disposed at the same time. The uniformity of wooden tablet production refers to wooden tablets that were produced at the same time using the same process (the same wooden tablets).’ The uniformity is determined or presumed based on the materials, sizes, and observed shapes of wooden tablets. The uniformity of wooden tablet writing indicates that the wooden tablets were ‘written by the same person (同一書者).’ and this is determined based on the analysis of handwriting on multiple wooden tablets. As a result of analyzing the Goryeo Dynasty wooden tablets, it turned out that these were produced in consideration of various aspects such as freight kind and size, packing type, number of letters, and recipient’s status. In addition, wooden tablets for freights of the same label, same recipient, and same type were quite similar to one another in their size, form, and finishing as well. Thus, although most letters were missing, it was certain that they were the same type of wooden tablets. As a result of analyzing the handwriting on the wooden tablets which had been regarded as written by different persons, it has recently been discovered that more than half of the wooden tablets of the Taean shipwreck and the Mado shipwreck No. 3 were produced and written in the same joint process. Future studies will examine the implications of differences in production and writing of wooden tablets among ships that were discovered in this paper regarding collection, shipment, and transportation of freights transported by sea at that time.
