본 논문는 서복관이 장자와 예술정신을 연결시키는 작업을 자신의 관점으로 어떻게 완수하였는가를 이해하는데 그 목적을 둔다. 이를 위해 먼저 그가 장자 예술정신을 어떻게 해석하였는가에 대한 분석적 논의를 진행하였다. 더불어 서복관이 중국예술 특히 중국회화에 어떻게 장자의 예술정신을 적용시키고 있는가 하는 부분을 살펴보았다. 끝으로 예술작품들이 갖는 현대적인 의의는 무엇인지 하는 것을 서복관의 관점에서 살펴보고, 그가 가지고 있는 예술작품에 대한 이해의 한계점들도 지적해보았다.서복관은 공자와 장자로 대표되는 예술정신은 두 종류의 전형적인 성격을 나타낸다고 한다. 공자로부터 나오는 예술정신은 도덕과 예술이 합일되는 성격으로, 장자가 보여주는 예술정신은 철저하게 순수 예술의 성격을 드러낸다. 그런데 서복관에게 있어서 중국예술정신을 대표하는 것은 장자의 예술정신이다. 이에 서복관은 중국예술정신 전체에서 장자예술정신을 다루는 제2장에 가장 많은 분량을 할애 하며, 장자의 예술정신에 대하여 심도 있고 상세하게 해석 하였다.서복관은 장자 예술정신의 본뜻이 예술창작에 있는 것은 아니지만 중국예술 발전에 상당한 영향을 미쳤으며 특히 회화에 풍성한 성과를 가져왔다고 지적한다. 장자 예술정신의 이 심원한 영향에 대해 서복관은 중국 사상사와 중국 회화사의 통시적인 고찰을 통하여 독특한 견해로 심도 있는 이론분석을 진행하였다. 그리고 서복관은 예술창작에 있어서 하나의 근본적인 문제를 예리하게 지적하였는데 예술가의 마음, 예술가의 생명, 예술가의 인격은 예술작품이 성립할 수 있는 근원이라는 것이다.서복관은 장자의 예술정신의 영향으로 발생하고 또 발전하게 된 중국화에는 역사적으로 그 위대한 성과가 있을 뿐만 아니라 현대시에 대해서도 여전히 그 중요한 의의를 가지고 있다고 보았다. 이러한 의의는 중국 예술정신이 성취한 중국회화에서 보여주는 인생 경지에 있으며 서양 근현대 문화의 성격과 비교하여 선명한 특징들을 나타내고 있다고 하였다. 서복관은 중국 예술정신 및 그것의 성취로 표현되어 나온 중국 산수화가 역사적 의의를 가지고 있을 뿐만 아니라 현대와 미래에도 커다란 의의를 지니고 있다고 본다.
Abstract
Xu Fuguan’s creation interpreting on the art spirit of Zhuangzi / Shin, Jin-sikThis article is to understand how Xu Fuguan connected his art spirit and Zhuangzi with his own viewpoint. First of all I made an analysis discussion on how Xu Fuguan applied the art spirit of Zhuang Zi to Chinese art, especially the Chinese paintings. Finally I write about the modern significance of art works in Xu Fuguan’s viewpoint, and point out the understanding limitation on art works. Xu Fuguan considers that the art spirits of Zhuangzi and Confucius represent two kinds of typical personalities. The art from Confucius reveals the unification between art spirit and morality. The art that the Zhuangzi shows reveals the personality of a pure art, but Xu Fuguan considers that Zhuangzi’s art spirit represents Chinese art. Part 2 in Chinese Art Spirit by Xu Fuguan is used to narrate about the art spirit of Zhuang Zi in detail. Xu Fuguan points out that the original purpose of the art spirit of Zhuangzi is not in art creation, but it has great influence on the art development and brought great achievement, especially in painting. Xu fuguan analyzes deeply on the influence of the art spirit of Zhuang Zi through study on Chinese thought history and Chinese painting history. He points out that the heart of the artist, the life of the artist and the personality of artist are the original elements to form the art work. Xu fuguan thinks that the significance of the art spirit of Zhuangzi is not only in the influence on Chinese painting, but also the one on contemporary poetry. The art spirit of Chinese painting is to show the life state, which expresses clear features comparing to the personality of modern West stage culture. Xu fuguan considers Chinese art spirit and Chinese landscape painting has great significance not only in the past but also in the modern time, and even in the future.
