vita constantini is composed of four volumes and appendixes. the titles of appendixes are 'laudibus constantini' and 'the speech to the assembly of the saint'. eusebius of caesarea wrote vita constantini for the purpose of praising the exploits of constantine the great. thought the purpose of the work have bben argued by F.J foakes-jackson, W.T.Langton, .T.D.Barnes, and other scholars, but i think that forst of all eusebius wrote the work for the prasie of sonstantine the freat and secondaly for the missionary work. he collected materials of the work from a.d 336 to a.d 337 the death of the emperor, and then he began to write to the work at a.d 337, but he died at a.d 340 on the way without the completion on the work. thus the work was completed by other scholars after his death. thought eusebius and lactantius praised for constantine the great, but julian, zonaras, zosimus, and other contemporary scholars criticized and his wife fausta. thus philostorgius and zonaras insisted that the emperor was poisoned by brothers of the different mother in the birth for the crome of his execution. his many brothers were massacred on the suspiction of the posioing after the death of the emperor at a.d. 337. thought eusebius expressed for him in the work as constantine the great stood aloof from material desires, but zosimus suggested evidences that he impsed duties on many taxes to the people of the riman empire. because eusebius emphasized only bright side of the wmperor at any cases, resultingly he concealed from many historical facts, and he committed prejudices and distortions in the expression of his work. thought constantine the great was criticized by j.burckhardt, e.schwartz, and j.lowenklau in the recent age, but he was praised by c.baronius, a.alfoldi, t.d.barnes,, and other scholars. representatives of the middle road are h.nbaynes, e.gibbon, and f.j.koakes-jackson. they appraised the emperor with his good and weak points. i agree with the middle view of them absolutely neither the negative nor the affirmative. thought i am recogniing the merits of constantine the great, but i think that he also have many faults. because eusebius concealed the historical facts of the faults that constantine the great had, i think that his errors must be corrected in vita constantini
