Abstract
This study examined the semiotic mechanisms employed to construct mythical narratives in the political advertisements of candidates during the 21st Presidential Election. The analysis focused exclusively on the TV advertisements of candidates Lee Jae-myung and Kim Moon-soo, utilizing Barthes’s myth analysis, Greimas’s semiotic square, and Chapman-Egger’s analytical framework. Analysis of the candidates’ political advertisements revealed that while both candidates’ ads generated myths, they took distinct forms. Candidate Lee Jae-myung constructed a structure centered on a crisis-overcoming collective myth, structured around the passage of time. In contrast, Candidate Kim Moon-soo designed a structure centered on a value-defending individual myth, shaping national identity and a vision for the future. This demonstrates that political advertisements transcend mere election promotion tools, serving as crucial devices for embodying political ideology and leader image.
