문화경관이란 자연적 경관과 인문적 경관이 혼합된 복합적 경관을 뜻한다. 이러한 문화경관은 특성상 그 관리가 단순한 설명과 목록화만으로는 한계가 있으므로 이에 각광받는 방법이 바로 GIS의 활용이다. 이에 본고에서는 GIS의 활용을 문화재청에 어떻게 활용하는지 살펴보고 우리나라와 역사적․고고학적 인프라가 유사하다고 생각되는 영국과 일본의 사례를 살펴보았다. 문화재청의 GIS활용은 주제가 세분화되었다는 점에서 장점이 있지만, 단순한 문화재 정보의 전달에만 있었다는데 그 한계가 있었다. 그리고 영국과 일본의 사례는 앞으로 GIS를 활용한 문화경관의 관리가 통합적인 정보 제공과 좀 더 원활한 대국민 서비스로 가야한다는 것을 시사하고 있다. 이러한 점을 바탕으로 하여 GIS를 문화경관 관리하는데 활용한다면 효율적인 문화경관의 관리와 합리적인 문화경관의 활용의 토대가 될 것이다.
Abstract
The cultural landscape means complex landscape where natural landscape and human landscape are ever mixed. Management of Cultural Landscapes has a limit in terms of its mere description and cataloging because of the characteristics of the Cultural Landscape, accordingly a method spotlighted is the use of GIS. Therefore this paper investigates how to use the GIS in the Cultural heritage Administration and the situation in the UK and Japan, whose historical․archaeological infrastructure seems to that of Korea. The Cultural heritage Administration utilizing GIS has the advantage in that the subject has been subdivided, but has the limits of transfer of simple cultural property information. In addition, the situations in the UK and Japan suggest that the management of the cultural landscape using GIS improved with provision of integrated information and more seamless public service. Based on this, if GIS is utilized for the management of cultural landscapes, it will be the basis for effective management of cultural landscapes and reasonable use of cultural landscapes.
