Abstract

Within the context of post-critical museology, this study navigates the concept of topological space surrounding diverse human and non-human actors including museums, visitors, technology through the lens of Actor-Network Theory (ANT). Unlike traditional museology which dealt with the discourse within a museum institution, ANT-driven museology allows us to consider a museum as an actor and a network at the same time. After new museology, it became important to consider various museum visitors in the discourses of museum studies and museum education. Besides, the relationship between museums and technology is getting closer and closer. This paper examines how a museum meets with various human and non-human actors through the concept of ANT’s “translation.” In particular, it aims to re-examine non-human actors’ performance and capture the fluidity of a museum actor-network. This study only identifies several cases of museum actor-network among many. Thus, more networks need to be practiced and studied.
