『장자』의 ‘몸’ ‘장애’ 그리고 자유 ― 『장자』「덕충부」를 중심으로 ―

『장자』안에서 몸에 관한 담론은 크게는 장애와 신체의 기형과 자유와의 관계 그리고 신선으로 대표되는 완벽한 신체와 최고의 정신 경지를 논한 것이 있었다. 이 논문은 온전히 하나의 장이 신체적 장애와 기형을 바라보는 관점으로 가득 차 있는 『장자』의 ‘덕충부(德充符)’를 중심으로 ‘장애’와 ‘몸의 기형’에 관한 시각과 자유의 의미를 고찰하였다. 장자의 「덕충부」는 장애와 기형 관련하여 세 가지 관점을 보여준다. 첫째 『장자』의 「덕충부」는 사회적 편견에 기반 한 장애에 대한 ‘혐오’ 문제를 비판한다. 둘째는 『장자』 속 장애인은 자신의 ‘장애’를 신체적 결함으로 부정 인식 하지 않으며, 장애를 평등의 시각으로 볼 수 있게 하는 ‘덕’의 힘에 대해 논의한다. 셋째 『장자』는 ‘장애’가 아닌 인간 내면의 온전한 덕을 보는 관점을 통해 세상의 상대적 가치세계로부터 해방되는 경험을 이야기 한다. 이 때 장애의 문제는 인간이면 누구나 당면해야할 ‘질병’과 ‘노화’ ‘죽음’의 보편적 문제로 확장되며, 이의 극복을 통한 인간의 자유를 논한다. 나아가 장애의 문제를 국가와 위계질서에 의한 억압의 관점에서도 바라보며, 육체에 대한 인식 해방을 통한 자유를 말한다.
Abstract
This paper examines the interactive meaning of 'disability' and 'liberty' in the Zhuangzi. Chapter 5 Deokchungbu(德充符), Symbols of Integrity Fulfilled) of the Zhuangzi not only has a variety of insights on a chapter but also presents alternative perspectives on disabilities and discrimination. Chapter 5 Deokchungbu(德充符) shows three perspectives concerning disabilities. First, 'Deokchungbu' consisting of stories and anecdotes criticizes the problem of discrimination for 'disability' based on social prejudice. Second, the disabled people who have main roles in 'Deokchungbu' discuss the power of 'virtue(德)', as well as they do not realize their disability as a physical defect, furthermore to view disability from the perspective based on equality. Third, the Zhuangzi emphasizes an experience of a human being liberated from the world of relative values through the perspective of seeing the internal virtue(德) within a human being rather than a 'disability'. At this time, the problem of disability expands the universal problems of 'disease', 'aging' and 'death' to which every human being must face, and discusses human liberty through overcoming them. Furthermore, it deals with the problem of disability from the point of view of oppression by the state and hierarchy and refers to it as the liberation of awareness of the body.
