장자(莊子)의 ‘몸’에 관한 연구 — 생명적 측면과 심신일원적(心身一元的) 특성을 중심으로 —

Abstract

This paper aims to examine Zhuangzi(莊子, B.C.369∼BC289)'s thoughts on the body. For this purpose, the contents from the inner chapter of Zhuangzi(莊子) related to the body is considered with the related contents from the outer chapter and miscellaneous chapter. For this discussion, I first look at the meaning of the characters that represent body in Zhuangzi. Then, this paper trys to understand the narrative content of the fables of Zhuangzi centering on the characters such as shēn(身) and xíng(形), and comprehensively examines Zhuangzi's thoughts on the body. In previous research, Chinese and Eastern thoughts on the body have been centered on the monistic perspective. Although the research in the context of monism has been the main stream, the majority of research has emphasized the mental aspect of the body rather than the material aspect. However this paper proceeds with the discussion by focusing on the vital aspect of the body and monism, rather than the mental aspect of the body. I hope that this study contributes to enhancing the contemporary understanding of Zhuangzi and the traditional East Asian view of the body, and to revitalizing research in the humanities and art studies in connection with this.
