Abstract

The central idea of this paper is a study of divine revelation epistemology of Alister E. McGrath(1953). McGrath has deeply studied the new trinitarian natural theology that is able to unify the dualistic revelation epistemology of general revelation and special revelation. The former means the nature that gives the information about God the Creator, while the latter means the Word of God that is related to the salvation of triune God. For a long time have the dualistic revelation epistemology been accepted in the Christian Tradition. Christianity have understood the revelation on the basis of the prospect to divide special revelation and natural revelation. The Reformed theology followed the dualistic revelation epistemology too. However the dualistic revelation perception has brought about some problems a long time. The dualistic revelation epistemology have caused side effects that is gnosticism, pantheism or panentheism. Moreover it has spawned ideas of process theology in modern times. Pantheism, Panentheism, and Gnosticism have always raised not a little effects in the Christianity by misinterpreting the relation of the divinity and humanity of Jesus Christ. This problem is still lasting until the present day, confusing the faithful chris-tians by art and culture mixed with philosophy of science and religious ideas. Scientism, neo-Darwinianism, and relativist postmodernism and deconstruction also take a serious threat to Christian thought. Christian natural theology has not coped with an exclusive world, because traditional Christianity have not accepted the knowledge of developed science and modern philosophy. But God`s revelation is revealed not only through the Bible, which is a special revelation, but also through human, history and nature. This revelation idea was not really able to be accepted in Christian theology. These results made the Christian theology more distant from the world. If we do not solve dualistic revelation epistemology, namely, special revelation and natural revelation, the above problems will not be resolved forever. This world must be established as a kingdom of God, not two kingdoms. This study begins with the fact that the first fathers and the reformer John Calvin had already gone out of the divine revelation for a unified purpose. Especially McGrath has contributed greatly to unifying the dualistic revelation problems by establishing the theological methodology of trinitarian reve lation perception. Therefore, this paper intends to open the door to unify dualism and fragmented revelation perceptions through new model of revelation perception by McGrath.
