According to the data that we can see at present, the SaoYe Publishing House have published 37 kinds of popular novels that include the immortal novels, the supernatural evil‐spirit novels, the romantic novels and the history novels etc. Before the first popular novel been published, this publishing house carefully selected the type of novels. It not only reflected that the traditional publishing house was fearful and cautious, but also marked that the publishing house began to care about the popular novels. Although attaching weight to the novels' subject, choosing the novels that the other press have published, stressing on the folk and tradition, that were the typical character of the SaoYe Publishing House, it still tried to publish some works that satirized social reality at last. Insisting on publishing the popular novels by engraving, but in the tendency of reprinting Ming and Qing dynasty’ popular novels, the SaoYe Publishing House had to use the printing with movable type and the chromolithography by the propelling of the new trend. The above circumstances fully reflected that this traditional publishing house melted into the tendency of modern novel publishing with its conservation, on the other hand, the efforts and predicament in In the process of the transforming also been reflected.
