The purpose was to compare the chemical shift images according to the Dixon technique and the fatsuppression technique using the T2 weighted image and gradient echo pulse sequence using a self-made phantommixed with fat and water, and to quantitatively analyze the pixel values and chemical shift distances. To evaluate thefat removal capacity of various pulse sequences, including the Dixon method, a research phantom was constructedusing a mixture of canola oil and mineral water. MR scans were performed using a 1.5T MR scanner using the Dixontechnique and a head coil with an MR pulse sequence of T2-weighted images and gradient echo. The image definedand calculated the gray value and bandwidth pixel and frequency difference of the plot profile of the boundaryaccording to the distance in the water and fat phantom according to the type of MR pulse sequence. In the pulsesequence of T2 weighted images, artifacts due to chemical shift were observed at matrix 320 mm, bandwidth 140Hz (pixel), and in matrix 512 mm, bandwidth 140 Hz (pixel), fat was removed at matrix 320 mm, bandwidth 70Hz (pixel) of T2 weighted image pulse sequence, but the image due to chemical shift was depicted more severelythan the images of other pulse sequences. The water-only image by the Dixon technique showed that the artifactsdue to chemical shift were eliminated by fat removal, and the gradient echo pulse sequence showed that the fat wasremoved, but the image was captured by chemical shift. In the gray value according to the image evaluation, chemicalshift artifacts occurred in the image, but the water-only image of the Dixon technique removed fat and depicted ahomogeneous image. The bandwidth of the MR parameters was calculated as 50 Hz/pixel, the frequency differencewas 223.3 Hz, the chemical shift was 2.16 pixels, and the chemical shift distance was 0.67 mm. In conclusion, theDixon technique for fat removal was evaluated as an excellent pulse sequence for fat suppression compared to otherMR pulse sequences, and is a pulse sequence that can be usefully applied for fat removal in clinical institutions.
