Abstract

(Background and Purpose) As consumer sentiment shrinks due to the economic crisis after the COVID-19 pandemic and the merchants' ages, specialized alleys are entering the path of stagnation. In addition, as the central business district changes and consumption trends shift from offline to online, specialized alleys that are unable to change are facing a difficult situation where coexistence is difficult. So by analyzing street environment characteristics and creating an objective framework, the goal is to establish a sustainable support system that improves citizen convenience and revitalizes these areas through various programs and community engagement. (Method) This study analyzed the literature and previous papers to extract characteristics and factors by dividing the horizontal environment into physical elements(space), systemic elements(programs), and human elements(people) in terms of functionality and conducted FGI for domestic experts and related professors to create an objective case analysis tool and apply it to domestic cases to study the characteristics of the domestic horizontal environment for revitalizing specialized streets(programs), and human elements(people). An FGI was conducted with domestic experts and professors to create an objective case analysis tool, which was then applied to domestic cases to examine the characteristics of the horizontal environment for revitalizing specialized streets. (Results) As a result, applying the case analysis framework to domestic cases through the characteristics and factors derived through prior research and FGI in this study revealed that it was not just the formation of a specialized distance in a physical range, but also consisted of a relationship between people, a space where people can stay, and a program or platform where people can work. Additionally, it was discovered that people's activities, community formation, systems, and platforms were necessary for the space they wanted to stay, remember, and the space they wanted to work with, rather than just making them physical characteristics. It was discovered that if residents were not alienated and socialized and developed together, they could maintain a more continuous specialized distance. (Conclusions) This study looked at the limitations of maintaining a continuous specialized distance through the analysis of existing specialized street design or physical parts of space and studied the characteristics of the domestic street environment to activate a specialized distance. It is expected that the specialized distance can grow continuously and spontaneously if all characteristics and factors are diverse, tourists come together, and residents form a platform with their own systems and programs to maintain it. By utilizing the case analysis framework of this study, it is expected that various specialized streets will be composed of a more continuous and developing street environment.
