Abstract
National identity may be defined as the way with which the members of a country think, talk about nationhood and define themselves as self-recognition. In general terms, national identity could be understood as a sense of belonging that citizens feel about, and signified collective identity or an image that all members of a community share. This national identity is a capability that operates as the most basic foundation of society at every level from national security to stable development. This research hence explored the national identity of such selected Asian countries as India, Japan, the Philippines, South Korea and Taiwan. The result of doing such statistical analyses says that the citizens sampled from India, Japan and the Philippines have relatively higher sense of belonging to their nations than those from South Korea and Taiwan. The outcome of analyzing national pride is much similar to that above in the sense of belonging to nations. South Korea has devoted to establish its national identity. But this study result reveals its manifest failure of policy. Therefore, it is essential not only to check and evaluate existing policies but also to transform them into innovative ones by restructuring education system toward a new school education and civil education for the global future generation.
