(Background and Purpose) This study aims to propose a space design that enhances learner-centered user experience, based on the necessary spatial components for university libraries to function as multifunctional cultural complexes. To achieve this objective, an analysis of remodeling cases of a professional college library was conducted, spatial components were derived, and, by reflecting user surveys, proposed a space within the ‘Daelim University Suam Library’ was proposed that can serve as a multifunctional cultural complex. (Method) The following methods were employed to present a library model as a multifunctional cultural complex suitable for the professional college environment and to propose a space design. 1. A review of reviewed previous studies on spatial changes in domestic and international university libraries and the characteristics of libraries as multifunctional cultural complexes, as well as relevant university library policies. 2. Based on the preceding research, Components of a multifunctional cultural complex shifting toward a user-centered paradigm were derived, and those relevant to this study were selected for application. 3. Previous university library cases that successfully implemented the functions of a multifunctional cultural complex were selected for analysis, with spatial elements examined based on the derived components. 4. To propose a multifunctional cultural complex configuration, a survey of Daelim University library users was conducted, mapping the derived components with user needs. (Results) The study revealed a shifting trend in university libraries toward becoming multifunctional cultural complexes. In addition to fundamental roles of resource collection and individual study, can also facilitate communication, social interaction, collaborative research, creation, sharing, and diffusion, as well as function as a multi-purpose space. Accordingly, the spatial components required for this transformation were categorized into four areas academic support, collaborative space, creative production, and multi-purpose implementation. (Conclusions) Through this study, The four key spatial components for a university library to function as a multifunctional cultural complex were identified as follows. 1. The academic space should serve as a hub for learning and research, playing a pivotal role in the library's function as a multifunctional cultural complex. 2. The library should function as a collaborative research space. By serving as a collaborative platform where users can collectively explore and produce knowledge, it can provide an essential spatial foundation that promotes interdisciplinary convergence, data-driven research, and the sharing of outcomes. 3. A creative production space is a physical location within a professional college library that fosters students' ability to engage in creative endeavors that reflect the characteristics of their major coursework. 4. While traditional libraries were conceived as spaces for the consumption of knowledge, they must now transform into 'multi-purpose cultural complexes that generate knowledge.' To achieve this, the library must become an institution that plays a key role in strengthening users' creative, practical, and collaborative skills.
